MR MUSCLE RELAXANT*

MR muscle relaxant* is a substance injected in small amounts into a muscle to cause temporary weakness or paralysis.

MR muscle relaxant* works by temporarily relaxing those muscles of the face, which create "worry" or "frown" lines through a state of chronic contraction. It is administered with a very small needle inserted directly into the muscle. MR muscle relaxant* is used to treat wrinkles across the forehead, furrows between the eyebrows and "crows feet" lines.

MR muscle relaxant* decreases wrinkles in a different way than do Bovine product* or Fat Injections. MR muscle relaxant* blocks the nerve impulses to these muscles, inhibiting their ability to contract and thereby relaxing the wrinkle. Bovine product* and fat are filler substances, which are injected directly into the wrinkle, not the underlying muscle. They work by occupying the space in the skin under the wrinkle, thereby lifting the wrinkle up. Occasionally fillers are combined with MR muscle relaxant*.

More recently we have found that MR muscle relaxant* injections around the eyes can prolong the results of laser resurfacing of wrinkles in this area.

The effect takes three to five days to occur. Patients know the MR muscle relaxant* is working when they see a decrease in the wrinkle and can either no longer frown or find it much harder to do so.

The results of MR muscle relaxant* last 3-6 months. As the MR muscle relaxant* wears off, wrinkles return, but often not as severely. With each subsequent injection, the effects can be more prolonged.

Side effects are minimal with occasional bruising at the injection site and temporary headache. Rarely, temporary eyelid droop may occur when forehead lines are treated.

The techniques mentioned for softening wrinkles are often used individually or together. The best technique for you depends on several factors, including location of wrinkle, depth of wrinkle, cost factors and general health considerations. Our staff can help you decide if MR muscle relaxant* is right for you.

Commonly asked Questions
