ENDERMOLOGIE
Cellulite Treatment
Endermologie is a non surgical treatment for cellulite and body shape which
involves lifting and rolling of the skin and deeper tissue.
Endermologie is the latest technique from France used for body contouring and
skin conditioning. The whole body approach stimulates the body with deep, smoothing
motions that actually reduce the appearance of cellulite while defining the
figure.
Cellulite, commonly referred to as "orange peel skin" is basically
a collection of unwanted, enlarged fat cells that lay locked between connective
fibrous tissues. These fat cells effect the lymphatic system and blood vessels
by preventing them from removing fluids stored in between the tissues. Nodules
are formed because of this process and they move to the outer layers of the
skin causing swelling and rugged "orange peel skin".
Cellulite generally affects 80 - 90% of women, and it equally affects obese,
normal or thin women.
Endermologie enables the return of circulation by quickening the body's metabolism
and releasing the trapped fluids between the tissues. Other treatments for cellulite
include a low fat diet, exercise, liposuction, lymphatic drainage massage, and
beauty salon treatments. Endermologie is often combined with the new ultra-thin
cannula liposuction techniques.
The sensation of the treatment is similar to a deep massage which most patients
find quite pleasant and the strength of the treatment can be individually adjusted
to suit the patient's comfort level. There are 12 different manoeuvers which
can be used but these depend on which areas of the body need to be treated,
however, to achieve significant results, the body as a whole must be treated.
A body stocking is worn for each treatment which is 35 minutes in duration with
a minimum of 18 treatments which can be either 1 - 2 sessions per week. Ongoing
maintenance is either every 3 months or once a year. Each treatment is $100
or 18 treatments for $1500.
I have found endermologie to be a useful tool both after liposculpture to help
tighten the skin but also for patients who do not wish to have surgery.
