Fat Transfer
Glycolic Acid Peels
PCA Peels
Fat transplanting (grafting) has proven to be a safe and effective procedure
for correcting and enhancing body contours. A new technique which involves implanting
small globules of fat has greatly improved the cosmetic result and long-term
results.
Fat is often injected along the lip line and into the naso-labial fold (the
line between the lip and the cheek). Fat can also enhance the cheek bones or
fill out scars. Fat may be injected into the back of the hands to create a smoother
fuller appearance.
The recovery period is usually a few days. During this time, you may expect
to have some swelling, and in some cases bruising.
Infection is possible with any surgical procedure, even with the best of care.
Therefore, it is important that you complete the course of antibiotics prescribed
by Dr Lanzer.
The procedure is usually performed in Dr Lanzers out-patient theatre in Toorak
and would generally take less than an hour. An area is cleaned with antiseptic
and blots of local anaesthetic is put over the donor area such as the stomach
or hips. A small nick is made and the local anaesthetic fluid is pushed into
the fat. A syringe is then passed in the fat which collects approximately 10-15mls
of fat. Weeping of fluid may occur from the nick for the next day. The fat is
then injected into the areas marked by Dr Lanzer.
There
is no guarantee that the fat injected will remain there permanently, but research
shows that fat present at 5 - 8 weeks following the transplant may last for
years. However, in some cases, for unknown reasons, all the fat can be re-absorbed
and disappear.
Fat transfer may be combined with other procedures such as laser resurfacing
and BX muscle relaxant*.
Unfortunately no guarantee can be given regarding the long-term improvement.
Glycolic Acid is one of the alpha hydroxy acids (AHA or fruit acids). It can be used in higher concentrations as a superficial peel which rapidly removes the dead outermost layer of the skin, along with oil, dirt and makeup left on the skin, to unblock and reveal a softer, smoother and clearer skin underneath. This is an effective treatment for acne, ageing and pigmentation (when used in conjunction with hydroquinone and glycolic acid home products).
Patients usually have 6 – 8 treatments performed at weekly intervals. There is no down time, though occasionally slight transient redness may occur. The treatment takes 2 minutes.
PCA Peels are mid range peels which are often combined with hydroquinone and/or resorcinol. These are supplied in layers to the skin leading to mild flaking and redness over the next couple of days as the outer layers of the skin are removed. These peels are especially useful for treating irregular.
