PHOTOREJUVENATION
New Non Ablative – LYRA Laser + Aura Laser

Commonly Asked Questions

1. What is a non-ablative laser?

Lasers have been used in Dermatology for a number of years to help improve facial rejuvenation. The mainstay of lasers for wrinkles has been ablative lasers such as the Erbium and CO2. These lasers work by vaporising the outer skin layers and as a result, patients require healing of about 5 – 7 days. The non-ablative lasers aim to rejuvenate without breaking the skin so there usually is no healing time yet collagen is rejuvenating below the surface.

2. How does it work?

The procedure involves shining a laser light onto theskin which penetrates and passes through the outer skin layers, having its desired effect on the deeperinternal skin layers. The laser stimulates the underlying collagen and causes a contraction. The end result is a more youthful appearance and skin contraction and tightening. The treatment with non ablative lasers may often be more subtle and certainly no guarantee can be given as to the extent of the results.

3. What are the advantages?

The Lyra non-ablative laser is suitable for all skin types including fair and olive and is useful for wrinkles; deeper sagging and also patients who do not wish to have any down time. It is also effective if there are red veins and spots on the skin.

4. How long does it take and how many treatments are required?

It is advised that patients have regular treatments on a four weekly basis for approximately six to seven months. The non-ablative treatment is best performed when combining the Lyra and Aura lasers. Treatment sessions are approximately thirty minutes and there may be a little discomfort during therapy.

5. What happens after the procedure?

After the procedure, make-up can be worn and there may be a little bit of redness. There are no restrictions post treatments and patients may apply makeup immediately and return to work. New Collagen formation may take 6 – 8 weeks to begin so rejuvenation is a process occurring over time.

6. What risks are involved with the procedure?

As with all lasers, no guarantees can be given to the end result and there is a theoretical risk of irritation to the outer skin which could cause crusting, scabbing and in the worst scenario scarring, pigmentation or loss of pigmentation. It is important that sun protection is observed during the entire treatment course. The non ablative laser is a new area in dermatology, and has attracted enormous interest around the world.

7. Is it combined with other treatments?

Photorejuvenation is often combined with glycolic acid peels. BX muscle relanxant* therapy relaxes the active frown and smile lines and injectable substances such as Thick Polysaccharide* improve the lip structure.

8. What conditions respond?

It is used for aged and sundamaged skin especially where patients do not want any down-time. It may also be helpful for types of acne scars.
