From the Doctors rooms...

...Dr Daniel Lanzer

Looking back over the last decade I am able toidentify a number of key points that have played a significant role in my development as a Dermatologist and my interest in Cosmetic Surgery.

My specialised training in Dermatology in Australia gave me the necessary basis for being an expert in the management of skin, the knowledge of which I call upon on a daily basis.

Dermatologist Dr Jeffery Klein pioneered and developed the Liposuction technique that has now made this procedure so popular. In 1992 I convened the first Australian conference to teach other Surgeons this technique. This was all followed and highlighted on multiple television programmes which brought me into the face of the media directly. There was tremendous interest in cosmetic surgery at that time which resulted in me being asked to be a regular guest on The Midday Show with Ray Martin, the Steve Vizard Today Tonight programme, Good Medicine, A Current Affair and a regular column writer for the New Idea magazine.

I was also privileged to be one of the Doctors to convene conferences on the new process of using lasers in cosmetic surgery, which was also first described by a dermatologist in the USA. My approach to cosmetic surgery has always been to understand what are the areas that really bother my patients and to focus in on them. At the same time we’re always looking for the procedure that has the lowest risks the quickest recovery and that produces the most natural appearance. The majority of my patients are able to keep their procedures private but just look healthier and fitter without obvious signs of having had surgery. There’s no age barrier in cosmetic surgery and my experience has been that cosmetic surgery can be used to enhance ones self confidence and inner self happiness.

Looking forward to many more years working together.
Feel good, Look good, Be good.

The A List
We were very proud to find that Dr Lanzer was one of the few Doctors to be listed on the 1999 ‘Harpers Bazaar’ magazine – The A list: - "Best Cosmetic Surgeons". He hopes to continue to live up to such a title.

What’s New?

Why A Dermatologist?
All the advances mentioned in this booklet have largely been made by Dermatologists. A Dermatologist combines his medical understanding of the skin structure and its chemistry with his trained surgical skills to produce the most aesthetic result with the least risk possible. Besides six years of medical training, a Dermatologist will have spent up to a further six years in extra training. A cosmetic Dermatologist also trains in the United States. The initials FACD (Fellow of the Australian College of Dermatologists) guarantees an Australian recognised specialist for skin care.

Cosmetic surgery is a rapidly changing field and Dr Lanzer and his staff travel regularly to conferences and workshops overseas. Having performed thousands of liposculpture and laser procedures, Dr Lanzer calls on his experience when he assesses each patient.

Changes in approach to ageing
Many years ago, ageing was treated with face-lift surgery. We now realise that most patients want a better skin texture and a rejuvenated appearance, rather than a different look. Laser rejuvenation does just this. However, if there is significant sagging of skin and muscle, then face-lift surgery may also be necessary. The most critical areas to correct are around the eyes and mouth, as those are the areas that people concentrate on when speaking to others.

Peels
Dr Lanzer and his staff have performed thousands of glycolic acid peels for acne, pigmentation and ageing. Persistent pigmentation my also be treated with PCA (kojic acid) peels. Glycolic peels are often recommended before and after laser resurfacing. .There is usually no down time other than slight redness.

Computer imaging
We provide digital imaging as an aid to understanding what cosmetic surgery can do for you.

Combining techniques
Laser resurfacing is often combined with Fat injection and Liposculpture around the jowls and neck, muscle relaxants*, temporary or permanment fillers* + facial suture lift. These are new and exciting products* that can be used for fine lines, deep depressions and to enhance the lips. There is no requirement for allergy testing.

Surgical fat removal
One of the most common concerns patients have before liposculpture is ‘what will happen with the loose skin?’ Thanks to finer liposculpture equipment, we now remove the most superficial fat layer under the skin. This causes a retraction and contraction response on the skin surface and, as a result, patients are often amazed at the skin tightness after surgery.

Lipectomy (the surgical removal of fat and skin) may be performed after liposuction. However in my experience, few patients exercise this option.

Eyes have it
Many patients tell us that their friends constantly say that they look tired. Changes around the eyes cause this impression and can be improved with laser surgery. Please refer to the button on the left for information on laser upper eyelid lift and laser removal of lower lid ‘fat bags’.

Skin Disease
Dr Lanzer still maintains a keen interest in acne therapy, skin cancer surgery and monitoring, as well as PUVA light therapies for psoriasis and resistant eczema. Consultations take place in our new Toorak rooms or at Glen Waverley. We also have many other locations for laser hair removal and blood vessel treatments. Finally, if you are considering surgery and have any questions, please be sure to ask them. It is our aim to make cosmetic surgery a pleasant and fulfiling experience for you.

Safety
Dr Lanzer continues his interest in safety of his procedures. He is the one of the selected Doctors in the world who has been asked to follow his patients from the USA progress to be part of a world wide study looking at safety of liposuction.
